Overview of the Program
Action Math Baseball is an online game that supplements Grades 5-7 Curriculum with meaningful math activities. This real-world simulation engages girls and boys in student centered learning as they manage their own Major League All-Star team. Participation in the program requires no previous experience with baseball.
This effective and unique simulation captures and holds your students attention in imaginative and dynamic ways allowing them to learn at their own pace and level.

Description of the Program
The simulation is based on real-world Major League Baseball teams, players and batting statistics.
Students are challenged with the following activities:
- Select player’s best batting year.
- Build probability wheel representing the likelihood of 8 batting outcomes.
- Set batting order to optimize runs.
- Draft new players to improve their All-Star team.
- Compete virtually against classmates and all 30 MLB teams.
- Rank their All-Star team on the Learderboard website.

The software is easy to use for both teachers and students and available 24/7 via the Internet from desktop Windows or Macs, iPads, Chromebooks or Android Tablets.
There are several on-demand video tutorials that guide teachers and students through the interface as well as mini tutorials to help students with the math formulas.
The Digital Stadium manages the baseball rules using controls and animation to monitor games. The Scoreboard displays team rosters, batting lineup, hits, runs and outs throughout the virtual game.

Recognition of the Negro Leagues
The Negro Leagues began in 1920 and became a catalyst for economic growth across the country helping to spark social change. In recognition of the Negro Leagues, nine players featured in the Negro League Baseball Museum's Field of Legends are included in the simulation.
Student Performance Track
The simulation automatically tracks student interaction over time and scores student progress on key math standards. The assessment is authentic and applies a variety of interactive item types that are commonly used in assessment systems.
Several standard-based reports are available on-demand to track student and classroom progress.
Program Demonstrates Growth
Furman Educational Resources conducted a research study to evaluate the impact of Action Math Baseball on students in Grades 5-7. The chart summarizes the data and demonstrates a consistent increase in math achievement across all strand areas.
A second research study conducted in 2018 involving 890 students showed the Program to:

Action Math Baseball is a simulation-based learning software designed to supplement the core math curriculum for students in Grades 5-7. This innovative program uses scaffolded learning activities designed to provide sudents a positive learning experience. It engaging to both girls and boys and requires no background knowledge of baseball.
While time will vary among students, a minimum of 20 hours is recommended to complete the simulation. Students in Grade 5 or higher should be able to complete the program independently.
